Hello and welcome to our new blog. We hope that it will provide a forum for a lively exchange of ideas and a great place to meet fellow hags, harlots and heroines.

Well, I seem to be the first person leaving a comment!
It's an interesting hagsharlotsheroines newsletter this month. First of all blogs. I’ve just started one blog, and I wonder if I should start another. I’ve started the blog I’m doing now for a specific reason: as an outlet for my opinions on various issues connected with bisexuality that publishers/editors seem not to be interested in. Of course, as a professional journalist I’d rather get paid for what I write, but as someone with strong sexual/political views, I also want them to have an audience and take their place on any debates on sexuality.
But I also want to do more creative writing, and maybe another blog would be a way to kickstart that. We’ll see.
I'm on suegeorgewrites.blogspot.com

I was also interested to read about historical fiction. There is a lot of it about at present from a female/feminist standpoint. But from my point of view, a lot of it seems to layer on the history with a trowel - detail upon detail which I think slows up the plot and character development. One person who categorically doesn't do this is Sarah Waters, who is just downright brilliant.

Thanks Sue - I agree with so much of what you've said and I hope that you've seen details of the Chroma competition. Sarah Waters is one of the most brilliant writers around - a national treasure. I'll check out your blog later on and don't forget to submit some of your creative and other work to hags, we're always on the look out for new voices, especially provocative ones.

Hello - good to be christening your new blog with Sue! Are you going to add some literary/arty blogs to your front page? Keri Smith's Wish Jar Journal is fab on the creative process, and there are loads that get me going creatively, like whisky river who's found something new and wonderful every single day for ages... here's to your blog ;)
